Marketing and Ethics

What if there were not any ethics involved in business what do you think would be the scenario? If this happens that the companies are not doing it fairly. Let's assume a company doesn't follow or considers ethics and starts marketing and promoting its brand without keeping the consumers' sentiments in mind.

For centuries and centuaries businesses have been using the various marketing techniques and promoting itself through advertisements, newspapers, radio, and podcasts, events etc. First, let us understand that what does ethics means  ethics is the moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity.
Ethics is doing what is right regardless of what the law says .(In other words)Ethics is something you choose to consider when taking action.

You all know that in the field of marketing ethics is considered as the most calm and sailent feature of ethics in marketing. Each and every one for the people ,doctors ,public servents as well as for  each and everyone for the companies.
(Ethics is the (Term) which basically means that doing the work with out breaking the trust of anyone. This simply defines the ethics. This concerns with the ethical issues such as child labour .

Ethics in business is all about the study of appropriate business policies and practices regarding potentially controversial subjects including corporate governance, insider trading,  discrimination, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and  responsibilities. Even in marketing ethics should be considered as a salient part of it. But how can you say this  that's a really tricky question right there or is it. Deciding by ourselves if whatever we are being told by the advertisers is actually genuine or are the claims made by them true becomes challenging for the general public. This becomes more challenging for the public.

Inexact about the marketing strategies I went through some websites and videos and I was amazed to see that since decades the marketing field has been entertaining unethical and false schemes. When i went through the different websites i get to know that how the companies are cheating to the peoples by showing the advertisements which is totally different athe back side of the adds and the advertisements. Advertisers are expected to show what is genuine and be honest with the content and the material that they are sharing to the public. True facts should be shown to the public and the lies must be avoided. But do they really care about it?

Untruthful advertising has become a global issue where the companies claim their products to be what it really isn't. The consumers are manipulated by the ads that are shown. It affect allot on the mind of the peoples. I hope you guys remember the Airtel ad that aired a lot back in the days; the Airtel's 4G ad claimed that they were the 'fastest network ever and if one's network is faster, then they would pay the mobile bills for that individual for life'. Now, what happened is that the Advertising Standards Council of India(ASCI) reacted upon this very claim of Airtel as misleading and also send them a notice to withdraw the ad.

But there is this another aspect of marketing i.e, as I mentioned earlier how Airtel had to face the dilemma; here's an interesting break-point to that very ad. Airtel again demanded that whatever they had claimed is not false and that the claim made by it is based upon Ookla. Ookla is a globally accepted and leading mobile speed tester. It is the leading speed tester. Airtel's rival Reliance Jio Infocomm had filed a complaint against this very ad stating that it's misleading and the claims made by Airtel weren't true. Now this very case of Airtel and Jio teaches us about the unhealthy brand competition in the industry.

Moving forward, just like we exaggerate about our daily problems even the marketing discipline exaggerates over their product a lot! As the saying goes. False statistics are provided by the advertisers to make its ad seem more promising.

Marketing campaigns have taken their game too far. Recently Kentucky Fried Chicken(KFC)'s ad had to receive tons of backslash from various communities cause of their inappropriate, sexist ad which has been censured by the public and the ad is slammed for 'objectifying women '. I am not concluding that the marketing department is filled with unethical practices they also do follow ethics no doubt as being truthful in advertising keeps the consumers have confidence in the ad industry. Ethics if done right helps the businesses develop the brand image, corporate image and these lead to a loyal customer base. The customers are sufficed as they get what actually is being advertised by the brand and they might even recommend it to others as well. This results in the growth of the business.Much and may of  the add campaigns also promote goodwill and create great content that teaches us the essence of ethics in our lives.
While showing the original advertisement and the adds or on any different source of advertisement they all should show what is the original at the back side of the adds and advertisements and this will make the more trust of the persons and originally this is something which is ethics.
  • Marketing, is it fully ethical or not will always remain a debate but what matters is that we learn from the various instances in life and be ethical, truthful, honest, nice and avoid unethical practices. So, what do you think is ethics really important in marketing or not? do comment and share your thoughts and views . What really do yo
